About me

Who am I?

A London based Senior Developer, originally from Madrid (Spain). Also a Japanese language student for the last 7 years.

I've been programming since I was 11 when I started using my ZX-Spectrum to program my music lesson sheets. After some serious thoughts I decided that I could do that for living so I went to the University to study Computer Science (but I spent most of that time playing Starcraft) and since 2001 I've been working as software developer.

Why Japanese

In 2007 I started studying Japanese and I used my programming skill to develop some tools to help me study (particularly for the kanji).

I managed to learn English and French during my education and I've also tried to learn Korean and German, and probably I will study any other languages in the future if I manage to learn Japanese.

What do I do when I'm bored?

Program, play videogames or boardgames and study japanese.

Projects

These are the personal projects I've been working on over the last years. Please, contact me if you wish to collaborate or want to know about them.

Japanese Study Webpage

Developing since 2007, study tools for learning Japanese Language for Spanish speakers.

I choose PHP because it was my only affordable option for hosting. I started on PHP 4 as a simple dictionary using a mysql database.

My main focus was to create a javascript form that allow me to type Japanese characters using a simple keyboard without the not always easy to install IME. Also I wanted autocomplete capabilities to do quick searches.

I made a javascript control using Jquery and new functionality was added. A complete search/filter using JqGrid and then a kanji test generator.

The first initial simple css style was converted a jQuery UI theme and the direct SQL queries were partially migrated using Doctrine.

The next step was to to use boostrap on the front-end and composer and twig on the backend. And finally I started using React. I'm in the middle of rewriting it to React.
